तैलाद्रक्षेत् जलाद्रक्षेत्
रक्षेत् शिथिलबन्धनात् ।
मूर्खहस्ते न दातव्यम्
एवं वदति पुस्तकम् ॥

"Protect me from oil. Protect me from water. Protect me from loose binding. Do not hand me to a fool" requests a book (to its owner).

रक्ष मां श्लथबन्धनात् ।
याचकेभ्योऽपि मां रक्ष
एवं रोदिति पुस्तकम् ॥

"Protect me from oil. Protect me from water. Protect me from loose binding and also from those who beg (who may not know the value of a book)" requests a book (to its owner).

आशुभ्यः परहस्तेभ्यः
एवं वदति पुस्तकम् ॥

"Protect me from oil. Protect me from water. Protect me from loose binding and also from swift hands of other people (who may not know proper handling)" requests a book (to its owner).
