Look before you leap

चलत्येकेन पादेन
तिष्ठत्येकेन पण्डितः ।
न समीक्ष्यापरं स्थानम्
पूर्वमायतनं त्यजेत् ॥

- हितोपदेशः

A wise man walks using one foot and stays using the other. Without examining the next position, he never steps on to it. (A wise person always analyzes future prospects, before making any significant decision in his life)
